Welcome to the Arab Primary School web page!  Arab Primary is a K-2 school located in the heart of Arab, Alabama.  It is one of four schools comprising Arab City Schools.  With high expectations and standards we continue to rank as one of the top ten schools in our state.  The faculty and staff at APS are committed to a mission of developing well-rounded students by providing quality instruction for individual growth in an environment that is conducive to learning.

Our school is committed to obtaining the goal of 100% literacy.  In 1996 Arab Primary School was selected as one of the first 16 schools in Alabama to implement the Alabama Reading Initiative.  The faculty members at APS were put through intensive training in the teaching of reading and writing.  During the summer of 2002 the faculty and staff returned again to be re-certified through the Alabama Reading Initiative.

At Arab Primary School the students are exposed to high-quality instruction in their general education classroom and throughout other special services in the school.  Our library media center and science lab work together to provide hands-on centers to teach concepts that correlate with classroom practices.  Our physical education program stimulates children to learn their body parts and muscle names.  A life-size obstacle course of the heart allows children to pretend that they are actual blood in the human body.  Every grade visits the computer lab each week to learn about computers and their functions.  Each student has access to the world at his or her fingertips with internet connections in every room.  Our technology progresses every day.

In 2002 Arab Primary School was recognized as a CLAS Banner School.  Over 100 schools in the state of Alabama applied their written proposal for CLAS and APS was one of only six chosen.  The proposal included academic programs offered to children, technology, physical education, after-school tutoring, Extended Morning, Extended Day, phonics and outstanding SAT scores.  Educators from around the state of Alabama visited our CLAS Banner School.

Arab Primary School continues to grow in student numbers and academic strengths every year.  Our school provides a small town atmosphere along with all the modernizations that every school in the country desires.  We welcome you to explore our web site and learn more about our outstanding school!
