Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Ben Haase
I graduated from Albertville High School in 2004. I was extremely involved in the musical program as a percussionist during high school and participated in the marching band, wind ensemble, jazz band, and show choir band. I continued to stay involved in musical groups during my college years even though I was pursuing a degree in education. I graduated from Jacksonville State University in 2013 with a degree in secondary education and a concentration in general science. I also married my high school sweetheart, Rachel, in the fall of 2013. I taught for five years at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama. After a year and a half of full time teaching, I began pursuing my master’s degree in secondary education at the University of Montevallo. I completed my master’s degree in 2016.
After five years of teaching physical science, pre-AP chemistry, and AP chemistry in Alabaster, I decided to apply for an international teaching position. In the fall of 2018, my wife and I moved overseas to a small country called Albania, which is located in eastern Europe. I was a secondary chemistry and general science teacher at Albanian College Durres which is an international baccalaureate world school. This was an incredible experience for my wife and I. We ended up travelling to 18 different countries around Europe during the two year contract, and I learned a great deal about teaching a difficult subject to students where English was their second or third language.
After our two year experience overseas, my wife and I decided to settle a little closer to our families. I am now starting my 8th year of teaching at Arab High School, and I couldn’t be happier to be here. I am teaching environmental science along with human anatomy & physiology this year.
Along with my love for science, I enjoy rock climbing, playing guitar, writing music, disc golf, travelling, hiking, and kayaking.
