Mrs. Shannon Griggs

Hi!  I am Shannon Griggs, the library media specialist (LMS) at Arab Junior High School.  I received a Master of Library and Information Studies degree from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Montevallo.  I am a nationally certified library media specialist through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) through 2024.  I enjoy promoting literacy and digital literacy to junior high students in grades 6-8 at Arab Junior High School.  In addition to our collection of books, the AJHS library media center is growing and cultivating an inviting ebook collection which supports our district 1:1 technology initiative.  Student readers are instructed on how to install our Destiny Discover Chrome extension onto their Chromebooks and check-out ebooks on their school issued devices.  In addition to books and ebooks, the LMC's collection includes several Ozobots, Spheros, and Ollies which are programmable robots that support the instruction of coding and programming.  Most recently, I applied for and won grants from the ShareSpace Foundation and Buzz Aldrin Family Foundation for their giant Mars Map and Moon Map, textbook kits, and curriculum guide. With a value at over $6000, these materials are housed in the AJHS Library Media Center and are available for teachers to check out and use with their classrooms. Click here to find out more about these valuable resources, and feel free to contact  Shannon Griggs in the AJHS LMC to borrow these materials for your civic organization, school, church, or buisiness here in Marshall County.
